Discover Nearby Lake Michigan Beaches: Perfect Alternatives If You Want a Stairs-Free Day at the Shore

At Rest Pointe, our private 372 feet of Lake Michigan beachfront is one of the biggest perks of staying in our charming cottages. Nestled on 8 peaceful acres with our upper bluff experience and epic sunsets, it's a serene spot for beach walks, bonfires, and unwinding right outside your door. But we know not every guest wants to navigate the stairs down to our secluded shoreline—whether due to mobility needs, little ones in tow, or just craving a change of scenery.
No problem! The Montague and surrounding White Lake/Muskegon area is packed with beautiful, accessible public beaches on Lake Michigan. These nearby gems offer soft sand, great swimming, and those iconic golden-hour sunsets you love—often with flatter entry points, parking close to the water, and extra amenities like restrooms or picnic areas.
Lloyd's Landing (also called Old Channel Beach or Lloyd's Landing at Old Channel Inn) is a fantastic, easy-access public beach spot on Lake Michigan, right in Montague, MI. It's located at the end of Ferry Street (off Old Channel Trail), adjacent to the historic Old Channel Inn restaurant at 6905 N Old Channel Trail.
Rest Pointe is situated just north of the Old Channel Inn—making Lloyd's Landing essentially your neighbors' backyard beach! From your cottages, it's an ultra-short drive (under 1 minute) or even a quick walk south along Old Channel Trail to the Ferry Street turnoff and road-end access. This puts it closer than many other nearby options.
  • Access Style: Super simple and stairs-free—road-end parking on the shoulder of Ferry Street leads directly to the beach with a short, flat carry-in walk (less than 50 yards in most descriptions). No steep dunes, boardwalks, or stairs required; it's a gentle entry to the sandy shoreline.
  • Terrain & Features: Long stretch of pristine, soft sand perfect for swimming, walking, sunbathing, and those iconic Lake Michigan sunsets. It's bordered by the protected White River Barrier Dunes Sanctuary (natural dunes and vegetation for a scenic, uncrowded feel). Calm, clear waters and a peaceful vibe—often called a "hidden gem."
  • Amenities: Free shoulder parking; no on-site restrooms, leashed pets usually allowed. Combine it with a meal or drinks at the Old Channel Inn (a short walk away)—many visitors do exactly that! Don't park in the Old Channel Inn lot unless you are eating in the restaurant.
  • Why It's Great for Guests: Ideal stairs-free alternative to your private beach access. Super convenient from Rest Pointe (practically next door), quiet, natural, and delivers the same stunning views without any climb.
